4 Finger Thumping Rules Useful For Transcribing

Medical Transcription Company needs to recruit only those medical transcriptionists who are proficient in transcribing a document. In this article; we look at some of the rules useful for transcribing.

Medical transcriptionists need to be at their best while transcribing the medical documents. They need to ensure that the transcribed documents are quality driven with the precise knack of understanding the accent of the medical practitioners.

There are times when medical transcriptionists are not able to understand the accent of the medical practitioners. During such times; it is advisable for the medical practitioner to leave blank spaces for doubts so that they can solve them at a later stage. Let us now look at some of the finger-thumping rules useful for transcribing:

  • Check the spelling mistakes of the doctor:  Doctors have this uncanny knack of making spelling mistakes. Never assume that everything is right. They are wonderful practitioners, but terrible spellers. Whenever you face any doubt, try to find it out or flag it. Always try to see that the accuracy of the medical records is up to the mark.
  • Use proper grammatical punctuations: Doctors will not dictate correct punctuation in statements. Even if they do you should completely disregard all punctuation the doctor dictates and use your training and expertise. When you are under training for transcribing, use your best judgment concerning punctuation and proper English usage unless your employer says otherwise.
  • Always proof-read before sending the document:  Remember to proof-reading the document before sending it for approval. If the proofreading is done badly then it will affect you personally and professionally. It can also affect the patient records drastically. Slowly but gradually you will learn to proofread the document as you type which will save lot of time. But this will take some time.
  • Learn more about punctuation and English language: Try to learn as much as you can about punctuation and English language. If there are any rules with which you are not comfortable; ask your instructor for clarification or post the question on the Student Forum. Try to see all the opportunities that can arise in case of incorrect punctuation usage. Know the rules for correcting it in the document.
A global medical transcription company would recruit only those medical transcribers who are able to fulfill the rules mentioned in the document.
